Nothing Goin My Way :(

"If nothing goes right, then go left" - I like this very much but when really wen nothing goes my way,I cannot take it light...this frustration is coz of my HP Project and dept..I had some plan in my mind and tried to stick to that as much as I can but with things that are totally out of my control that affects the plan, I ve nothing to do otherthan blogging like this..For the past one week I have been goin to my dept to just switch on the HP server and when I come to Octa to work, either somebody switch off the machine thinking they are saving power (un-intensionally) or God himself cut-off the power to dept..got totally frustrated today as today also I cant work for the same reason....

Went home last weekend after quite a long time and came back to college today. Bought a new digital camera Canon PowerShot A630 last friday.Yet to explore it's full features as I need to buy charger and memory card.
This trip to home was really awesome as I went to Hogenekkal with my sister.Myself , my sister and four of her friends, all who are young doctors graduated only a week ago.This was a different experience to be in a group of doctors as most of their talks and everything centered around their future plans.Some of them are planning to do Masters(as my sis) while some other wish to join some hospital and work. One of her friends is goin to get married next may...From their talk, I sensed how responsible a doctor feel wen they graduate.All of them want to serve the poor and do something for the society but those who actually do it is very less as I can see,..Also the trip made me think how can an engineer like me can do some good to the society...

Ya,thats what my date of birth says about me and it also says about my character "Always up to some sort of a mischief! Atlast, we got our OCTA-INTERNET LAB opened for use..it's really amazing to see the huge lab of around 100 comps whereas our previous lab had only 30-35 comps and also we could see the no of users has increased tremendously... Also,we the lab(intranet) was opened last saturday to conduct Counter-Strike tournament in Vortex '06..
Last week, we had our technical symposium Vortex'06..like every year, its the senti symp for our final years, a platform to expose our talents for the third years with the only difference that second years were not just spectators..this time we could see a much valuable contribution from their side..even some of them were organisers for some of the events in Vortex!!Since, i was with the senoirs, i could feel how senti they were about vortex...although my contribution was not so great in this vortex, i hope next year, it will be !!..
We are participating in Adaventure in pragyan '06 and eagerly looking for it..See more about Adaventure and Pragyan here..I also got promoted for round 2 in code4bill contest...

And atlast my sem exams are over..everybody is busy packing up their things to go home as early as possible after a long war with their subjects...but still some cs freaks are staying here to play CS! this time we have only 13 days hols and i ve planned to come back to college after a week.
Yesterday i watched the movie Sivakasi and we had a great war between us with some guys supporting Vijay and the movie while i was against them..i dont like the movie at all..according to me Vijay can stopping acting if he is goin to continue to act in these kinds of movies in the future too!!Today i ve planned to watch the movie "Bambara Kannalae"..Lets see how is the movie!!

P-Lan(Pearl Lan) has made me lazy these days to come to octa and blog!!Ya,it's true because our p-Lan has got many things that are not in the history of NIT lan..we have got a noticeboard,wiki, wikipedia mirror and above all,we are goin to have Internet connection in our hostel(that was not possible even by Students Assosiation's effort!!but we are goin to make it!!)..so i find less time to come to octa...now-a-days i come to octa only for browsing and if we get internet in our hostel,i think there will be a day we say "this is called "octagon",we used to come here once!!"..
On the other side,my lab exams are goin on.yesterday,Microprocessor lab was over and i got f***ed in my viva for just a simple question "How many bits are required to represent FF H??".. my answer was "7"!!..other than that the lab was cool and tomorrow i have PPL lab..

yes,this what most of us in PEARL argue now..especially in our P-notice board..the debate started when Sivakasi Hussain(that is how he calls himself) put a post "Inagurating Vijay fans club"..then the issue started to get hot due to some students who hate Vijay..now in our notice board,we have only polls and arguments on who is great-Thala or Ilayathapathi Vijay...
I should call myself a "CSmaniac" because now-a-days i'm playing CS for more than 5 0r 6 hrs continously(dANGERous - that's my identity in CS)..i even the morning session due to CS and we have inter-department CS tournament this week on our hostel and i'll play in CSE team along with 4 of my friends( PsychoBlain,Megadeth,Gordon,:-) ) and the preparation are goin on seriously for that..side by side my cycle exams are also goin on??!!

Fun,Fun and Fun!!that is all i had for the past two weeks...i(should say 'we')went for Bala's brother's marriage last week..believe me it was not as if we were going for a marriage but was like as if we were on a trip coz Bala had arranged for a bus,lodge and everything we need..(thanks to Bala)..on the day of marriage,i met many of old friends in DPI and had fun..then i took my friends to my home and after lunch,some of them went home directly while some other returned to college and we(around 14) went to Sathanur Dam.The most astonishing thing in the dam is the Crocodiles..there are about hundreds of crocodiles seperated according to their ages.. then we took many photos there and went next to Karthi's house in Utthangarai and had our dinner there..i think every one other than me would have had a great dinner since i was the only veggeterian among the 14.. sometimes i feel frustrated to be a veg coz slowly everyone has started moving towards non-veg and even i dont get a good veg food in many places(even when i was in Hyderabad)..
I spent two days at my home doin nothing other than watching tv and reading books..i reached college on Saturday and needless to say,how it would be here during FESTEMBER time..i got ready by 9:00 am and we(vignesh,varun,krishna,aalu(rajasekar),DBKS-kaly) went to EEE audi to watch Thandav (dance) prilims..two days passed by..then on monday,we set up lan in our hostel and only i had many peculiar problems that made me reinstall windows XP and FC3...i watched my films like Euro-trip,Cruel Intensions,Village and few more..
Yesterday,i went to the movie "THOTTI JAYA" with lots of expectations that the movie will be good but it was not as i expected but worth seeing once if you like Simbu or Gopika..
Today,just browsing...

today my second cycle exams are over and we are free now after 5 days of continous study(believe me :-) )..
my II cycles are much better than my previous cycle in which i got 4 and 6 marks..today after my cycles i went to swimming pool..i'm happy that i can swim well now..tomorrow again the usual routine starts-writing records,assignments,gettin up at 8:30....

Today,last day of the three day vacation..people have started to arrive to their hostels and some of the common sentences we hear are "do you know how happy i was in home for the past three days??","when do we have a long holiday like this again??","why didnt you go home?studying?" and many such Qs..
Because of Independence day,today mess was closed by 8:30am since the workers are goin to attend the independence day celebrations...so again i'm with no breakfast..in the evening,we have given a presentation regarding the bytecode for the forthcoming tech fest Pragyan'06.We(compscis) are also planning for an Industrial Visit or a trip to Munnar if most of them are ready.I suggest "why waste time on IV??we can go for a trip!!".The problem is that everybody is saying "we should go for a trip" but nobody is ready to initiatiate!!Also there are many other probs like we need to take two staffs with us and that too a lady staff if girls are coming and also we should go only on week-days if goin for an IV.Lets see,if every thing goes well,we will be goin to Munnar after our cycles...These are some pics that potrays the beauty of Munnar!!

i'm blogging again after a long break..many things happened during these days..we(compscis) have taken up a new building construction project,IV(Industrial Visit) plan(but asusual ended in vain),Tamil Mandram's "Mun Pani"(its like a mini cult fest organised by Tamil Mandram comprising various events in Tamil)..i took part in "thiranudaimai" and movie spoof),i fell ill etc etc...also shankar has mailed us the VORTEX'05 photos and i recalled all those memorable days!!

And now,everyone has gone home except a handfull..our PEARL hostel is unusually silent now!!yesterday, me,varun,vignesh and kodumudi(shankar) went to Chatram in the evening..since we have not gone outside from clg for a long period,we enjoyed a lot..we went to Chennai Silks and some other places...and today i have planned to watch "Kana Kandaen" in our auditorium....

thursday evening,i was sleeping in my room and got upo at 6:30 pm and suddenly remembered that i have return the algo book to Raunak(my dept mate) and went down with the book in my hand.Near the water pipe,i met allagappan,he was neatly dressed with a big bag at his back.I asked him "Hey Alagu,where are you goin?we have cycles tomm??".He cooly replied "I'm goin to Delhi da..". thought he was kidding and asked him again...he replied again "I'm not joking,i'm goin to Delhi..".Yes,he is really goin to Delhi with his partner Parijat..they did a project for MHRD and he has gone to Delhi once before in II yr for the same thing..now he got the second change..thats great!!
I with my friends were joking that "Allagappan is goin to Delhi as if he is goin to his nearby town"..Goin to Delhi is not a big matter really but thats really a great thing to do a project for MHRD and finishing it sucessfully and that too while studying..and they are goin to get paid for their work!!
My cycles are back again..we are spending sleepless nights here again:-(..i used to recal my first year days mainly during my exams..there is a reason for it...my first year room was kind of mixture of peculiar characters..Raunak is very sincere,hard working(and ofcourse topper!!) and he used to do revisions before goin to exam(that strange to hear for any clg guy but believe me)...and Shatanik is straight opposite..he used to ask the portions for the next days exam and that too at 10pm..me and shankar fall in between..we usually start studying a day or two before the exams...but the night before the exam,we usually study till 4 or 5 in the morning but Raunak will be sleeping next to us and that too after finishing atleast two revisions..
i used to tell kodumudi(nick-name of shankar and now its "kodu")that we should also follow Raunak from next cycle and he used to laugh because i'll be telling this during each and every cycle but forgets it as soon as my cycles are over...And now,Raunak is our department topper and me,ha..ha..ha..posting blogs during cycle exams because truly saying "To kill the time!!!"

Its almost 15 days since i blog.Now,i'm working on NOSIP project Evolution.My project started on May 4th but since because of "MEET LINUX" course,i was not able to take up the project that week.I'm now simply working on some bugs with vignesh and we havent done anything significant for the past 1 week.
The weekend before our meet-linux course,i went to Dpi.Since i have to take a class on "Shell Scripting" on monday,i planned the weekend and decided that i should work accordingly.I reached home on friday night and worked on my comp that night.I thought that i could make all my slides ready by tomorrow morning,so that i can send it to all others who are all taking classes on various topics.I went to bed since my mother told me that she would wake me early(8:00 :-) )in the morning.The next day(saturday),i got up at 8:45 AM and finished my breakfast by 9:15AM and when i went near my comp to work,the current suddenly went off.I was very much disappointed because usually in Dpi,if power faiure occurs on saturday,then it will return only in the evening.So i cant do anything..i cant make my slides,i cant mail others..nothing...suddenly, i got a idea of goin to Arun's house.I went to his home that morning after four months..since i didnt inform him that i'm coming to his house, he was surprised and we both enjoyed remembering our school incidents,our college life,about Sridhar,Ramesh,Karthikeyan and everybody..
Then, Arun asked me to come to "Anniyan" film that day,but since i have seen the movie already,i told him no..we both came to my house and again chatted till 4:30pm and atlast,the power came and i told him about GLUGT,what is GNU/Linux,abt our course but he was not interested in all those stuff..so we just spent an hour in computer playing games(he likes verymuch),browsing photos etc etc..Atlast,around 6:00 pm ,i started to prepare my slides and i almost finished it around 9:00pm.Then, i had my dinner with my mother and sister and i thought i could send them by today night.I connected to net around 10 but to my fate,i was not able to upload a 600kb file for more than one and half hour and went to bed without sending the slides thinking i could sent them by tomorrow morning goin to any browsing center.
I got up at 9:00 on sunday morning and called Arun by phone and he told he will come to my house in another half-an-hour and got ready,copied the slides in a floppy and went to PEPSI(browsing center) with Arun.Again,my fate played with me,there was nothing in the floppy!!!I ran home leaving Arun at the browsing centre,copied them again and reached PEPSI again nad atlast i mailed the slides.By that time,it was around 10:30 and as soon as i reached home,my father asked me to go to KPN booking office because i have planned to take my computer to hostel.Then by the time i finished all those works,it was 4 in the evening.Then i slept for a while.Around 7:00,Arun came to my house and we both packed my computer and since i'm goin that night,i asked Arun to go with my father to take it to KPN office.Then,Arun left around 9:00.I started to my college from Dpi at 11:30 pm and reached college at 5:50 AM.
Since, i have to class today,i was little tensed because i havent taken any classes in the college till now.But around 10AM,allagappan told me that my class has been postponed to Tuesday and i was little relaxed bcoz i could get one more day to prepare.In the evening,the course began and went well.Then my turn came.That day,since we have to cover shell scripting along with other two topics,we actually ran out of time.And last,i finished my lecture and with Allagappan took my dinner.Since,there are two batches i have to repeat it again for the next batch and that was not too difficult.Then,next day,i and krishna went to take my computer from KPN office.The whole week,we were busy with course,so i was not able to do any progress in Evo project.
This week i have started to work something on Evo with vignesh and lets see how it is goin to be..???

Big software companies were back on campuses for recruitment with greater appetite this year.Tata Consultancy Services trebled their intake from Anna University. Compared to last year's 80 recruits, Cognizant Technology Solutions took 285 students from the university this year and read more here...

Not a very good begning...

Yesterday,i was browsing throgh the net till 2:30 in the night and went to bed around 2:45..i got up at 8:25 in the morning and thought of goin to 8:30 class(started my second year work again!!).Then,when i searched for my purse,i found it was not there in my pant pocket and i thought i must have been lost it because of my carelessness and i believed it must be in "octa"(where i was there last night).I got Gokul's cycle and rushed to octa.Thank God,the purse was there lying down near the chair where i was sitting yesterday night.I have lost my already before this once when i was goin to my home so i know what will happen if i lose it again.I need to inform the bank to seize my account(it had two ATM cards),then have to get a new id card(have to pay Rs.100/- for that and wait for a month)and many such things if it is lost again..
The rest of the day was not so bad..Today,i was not able to listen anything in the OR(Operations Research)class as i was feeling very sleepy..then in the evening around 7:00 pm ,we had our GLUGT meeting and we have planned to organise a 10 days course for both learners and developers(5 days each) on various topics.

Today when i was browsing through the net,i was reading some of the blogs asusual and at some page,i found a link to a blog named "Allagappan".Then,I thought it could be the blog of my friend Allagappan.We used to call him "Algates" and "Alla".Moreover,when i checked the link the address was "http://algates.blogspot.com/" but after reading his profile,i found that it was
not the blog of my friend Allagappan but of someone else.The interesting fact is that he hasmany things common with my friend..

Placement Begin for Final Years

Yesterday,Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) conducted the written exam for our final years and sort-listed around 190 students(i heard from a senior) for the interview which was conducted today.They have set a minimum GPA of 5.60 and around 250 student wrote the aptitute test. Today,they conducted the interview till evening and the final list of selected candidates was put up around 8:00 p.m.Totally,129 students(including UGs and PGs) got placed.This is the first company in this year and we hope,still lot more companies to come.

Atlast i got my room!!

I reached my college on last sunday afternoon around 1:00 pm after my summer vacation.I have asked for a room in Pearl(my new hostel)and i have been given a room in first floor.As i was walking(with my heavy luggage) to my new hostel,i met my friend Manju(last year room mate)near snacky and he told me that the hostel allotment has been changed completely according to alphabetical order and i have been given Lapis 113(its another III yr hostel).First,i didnt believe that and thoughthe is fooling me.Then i went to Pearl with Manju and after seeing the list in the notice board,i came to know that's true..yes,i have been given a room in Lapis!!Moreover,that wing consist around 11 karthiks(i dunno why karthik is so common in TN-i have asked my parents abt this too!!)I spent the whole day in Krishna's room hoping that we will get our rooms by tommorrow evening. Then,next day i went to class and it was asusual.I discussed about the project experience of other guys in the class.Two days passed by.We are still the same room but on wednesday evening,our VP put up the new list.And atlast,i got my room in Pearl!!

My Results Are Out

Yesterday my IV sem results are out..Vignesh called me yesterday and informed abt his marks and didnt tell my marks but he told its above 8 and tried connecting to net from home after that but my bad luck account expired on 16 itself..so i called KB(Karthik Balaji-one of my CSE friends) and asked him my mark..he told it is 8.70 and i also enquired about my friends' marks..then i called Vignesh and told the whole thing and today i came to browsing center and saw all my friends' marks..

CAT - The Common Admission Test to the six IIMs is also the entrance test for few other top B-Schools such as SP Jain, MICA, and T A Pai. CAT tests your skills in five broad areas viz.

Verbal ability and reasoning
Reading Comprehension

Quantitative skills

Data Interpretation

Analytical and Logical reasoning

The test comprises between 150 to 200 objective type questions and is usually divided into three to four sections. Each question has a question statement followed by four alternate answer choices and the candidate has to choose the best answer for each of the questions and mark it on a special Optical Reader answer sheet.

Over the years, the number of questions being asked in CAT has been decreasing steadily. While the early 90s witnessed 180 to 200 questions, the late 90s, specifically CAT 1999 and CAT 2000 had 165 questions each. CAT 2001, CAT 2002 and CAT 2003 had only 150 questions each and these 150 questions were divided into three sections of 50 questions each.

The duration of the test is of 120 minutes. This literally translates to answering a CAT question in 48 seconds. Most successful aspirants do not attempt anything more than 120 plus questions. And quite a lot of them attempt between 85 and 100 questions. The key to success, therefore, lies in two important parameters

1. The accuracy or strike rate

Each correct question carries 1 positive mark, while each incorrect question carries negative marks. Though, it is not clearly known what the negative mark, it would not be way off the mark to assume it to be one-third of a mark. Hence, it is important to get a strike rate of over 85% - that is reduce the number of negatives.

2. Smart Selection

As it is clear that you will not be generally able to attempt all 150 question, and you skip between 30 and 50 questions, key to success lies in selecting questions properly. Remember, every correct question carries the same 1-mark and each incorrect answer carries a one-third negative. Hence, there are no kudos, nobel prizes or awards waiting for attempting the tough questions. Be smart to choose, the easiest of the questions and the ones that you have practised a lot and smash them. Do not venture into unsafe territories or to questions which you only have a vague idea.

CAT and entrance tests of other top B Schools are a unique breed of entrance exams. They focus on testing some of the basic qualities essential for managers - the grit to work hard, smartness to choose the best alternative, quick thinking and above all perseverance.

Exams like IIT JEE test the depth of your knowledge, while the Civil Services exams test your width of knowledge. CAT evaluates your presence of mind and the ability to perform under pressure. You cannot prepare for CAT during the last 10 days, as one generally does for semester exams. A minimum of 3 to 9 months of regular preparation is essential.

FIRST DAY!!
The first day..i still remember..after my II sem vacation,i'm back to my college.I entered with lots of dreams n hopes coz i'm goin to enter my dept(compsci) first time(first yr we were in sections)..i took a bus from my home at 6:30 in the mornin leaving my parents n sister.The travel from Dharmapuri to my clg took around 6 hrs and it was tooo borin..n atlast i reached the clg around 1 in the afternoon.i then reached my new hostel "Diamond"(its for II yrs)..i dunno were to go at that time coz i was not alloted room at that time..so i wandered around the colloge for some time n i was informed that i ve been alloted room #33(it was one of the imp rooms where we got ragged in first yr) but i was happy to get that room coz it's located in the first floor,airy,spacious varanda n 1 more important thing it's not near either to tv room or toilet(coz of smell)..
its time to tell me abt my room mets..i'll start with Manjunathan.well i don't know much abt him at that time..as for i know he was bright in his studies(Manju plz dont get angry:-( )during his school time n his state rank was aroun 130.i dont know much abt him in the first yr coz we were in different floor in AGATE(our first yr hostel-i still love it),different sections n due to so such things but i know 1 thin that he is least cared abt his marks n always plays chess..okay.now abt my other room-met/dept met Vignesh..even i dont know much abt him in the first sem but in the II sem we got to know each other better coz of our club(Wisdom) n coz we both are in same dept..he is a sort of calm boy(but not actually).."speaks less works more type" n he i know he has a gf(same batch-but i cant mention the name)..at last but not the least,my other room met is Allagappan..i cant say that i dont know much abt him coz everybdy in the college knows Allagappan(popularly called "AlGates"(came from Bill Gates))..he is one of the computer fundoos of our college..he speaks hindi well coz he has been lived in almost all the states of India(at that time he was in Kochin)...
let me continue..in the hostel i met Manjunathan first..he was there before me n then i met Vignesh..Alla came at the last..then i took my lunch in the canteen...then we finally settled in the room with lots of dreams in everyone's eyes(ofcourse this too much!!)...

this time during my semester vacations i'm goin to Hyderabad to do a project in IIITH.my sem exams will be getting over on may3.myself and my friend Vignesh are goin to Hyderabad.i'm so excited about this and i'm eagerly awaiting for those days...i hope the days will be enjoying there..

arun's visit to NITT

today morning arun called me and gave a surprise that he is goin to come to my college today.
i was delighted and went to bus-stop to receive him and waited there for more than 45 mins but then arun called me from his friend's cell and told me that there is some strike near sengipatti and i told him my hostel name and room no and asked him come there directly.
he came to the hostel around 1 in the afternoon and i felt very happy to see him after a long time(i was asking him to come to my college many times before!!).i introduced him to my friends vignesh,manju,varun and took him to the canteen and we had our lunch there.from there we went to the juicy and had pineapple juice(i only paid:-( ).then we went to our dept lab.he was so scared to come into our lab as he felt somebody may find him to be someother college guy but after seeing the security-man sleeping outside the lab,he got the courage to enter the lab.we were there for around half-an-hour.then we went to our room and chatted for around 2 hrs.
then we went to snacky and had a light tiffen and i took him to "The Octagon"(our computer lab where i hang out all the day).then he went around 6:30pm.
we both enjoyed the whole day discussing about the happenings that took place during our school time(including sabarie ganesh's incident that took place in the zoology class,N.karthikeyan's essay on rattus rattus).
